Development Wing mission is to support musical arts education and the creation of new American musicals.  Grants are awarded annually to organizations and artists who are actively involved in teaching or creating and producing new musical works.

Prior to the pandemic, Development Wing awarded grants to NJPAC in support of the Johnny Mercer Musical Theater Residency there. In the groundbreaking program, five federally funded middle schools in the greater Newark area collaborate to create a new musical for a culminating performance at the art center.

As a proud supporter of Broadway’s Babies, an organization using arts education to bring compassion and empowerment to communities in NY and around the world., DW awarded a grant for their 2020 season.

Previous grants have benefitted writers and organizations including: The Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, the Open Jar Institute (whose work during Covid-19 is exemplary), as well as individual grants and our workshop series at the West Bank Cafe for writers such as Theresa Rebeck (Smash), Julia Jordon (Smoking Lesson) and a long list of up and coming writers.
